Dubai traffic: a project to reduce peak-hour travel times to one minute on important roads
RTA reports that the road improvement project in Dubai is 85% complete.
The peak-hour traffic on Al Meydan Street in Dubai will take one minute instead of eight due to a road rehabilitation project.
According to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), 85% of the project is currently finished.
The project reaches the Cyclists Club from the intersection of Al Khail Street. The work included extending the Al Quoz roundabout into an extended roadway along the route, increasing the street from two to three lanes, and replacing the Al Meydan Roundabout with a T-shaped signalized surface intersection.
According to Hamad Al Shehhi, director of Roads, Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, "congestion at intersections is expected to drop significantly by (nearly 95 per cent)".
"To improve traffic flow in the area, Mohammed Bin Rashid City's entrances and exits will be changed as part of the next Al Meydan Street Improvement Project phase. It is anticipated that the entire project will be finished by the start of 2024's second quarter.
In the Al Meydan neighborhood, the RTA created a tunnel with bike lanes that can hold about 800 bikes per hour. Bicyclist wait times have decreased as a result of the cycling track's surface intersection being converted into a tunnel.
Tasks performed:
- reducing the minimum number of lanes on the street from two to three.
- constructing a T-shaped signalized surface crossroads in place of the Al Meydan Roundabout
- Al Quoz Roundabout's conversion into a longer street along the path
RTA strives to provide smooth vehicle flow on Dubai's roads by continuously improving the emirate's infrastructure in order to match urban growth and promote the emirate's sustainable development.
"The recent improvement works aimed to reduce the travel time on Al Meydan Street from eight minutes to just one minute during the morning period and from seven minutes to less than one minute in the evening," stated Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads, Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA.
Furthermore, a considerable 93.3 percent average reduction in traffic congestion at crossings is anticipated.
"To improve traffic flow in the area, Mohammed Bin Rashid City's entrances and exits will be changed as part of the next Al Meydan Street Improvement Project phase.
"Landscaping at the new Al Meydan intersection is also planned."
"The project is anticipated to be finished in its entirety by the start of 2024's second quarter."
