Dubai Airshow 2023 Achieves Record-breaking $101 Billion in Aviation Deals
The Dubai Airshow 2023 has concluded, marking its most substantial edition to date with aviation deals exceeding $101 billion.
As a key event in the aerospace and defense sectors, it garnered significant attention and showcased the unwavering commitment of these industries to ongoing technological advancements.
Record-breaking Edition:
Under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the 18th edition of the Dubai Airshow set a new record, featuring more than $101 billion in announced deals throughout the week. The event witnessed a remarkable 30% increase in attendance, with over 135,000 participants compared to the previous edition.
As The next edition of the Dubai Airshow is scheduled for 2025 at Dubai World Central (DWC), Al Maktoum airport, emphasizing the sustained importance of this global aviation gathering.
Notable Deals:
Some of the standout deals included Emirates' order valued at $52 billion for 95 additional wide-body aircraft, comprising Boeing 777-9s, 777-8s, and 787s. In addition, the airline committed $6 billion for 15 more Airbus A350-900 jets, supporting its ambitious growth plans.
The signing of a memorandum of understanding for eleven Airbus A350-900s, together with the announcement of an order for eleven 787-9 Dreamliners and twenty 737 MAX 8 aircraft, further cemented Ethiopian Airlines Group's position as the leading A350 client in Africa.
AirBaltic secured an incremental order for 30 A220-300s, making it the largest A220 customer in Europe, while Boeing and FlyDubai entered into an agreement for the purchase of 30 787-9 Dreamliners.
Government Contracts:
Tawazun Council, collaborating closely with the Ministry of Defense and security agencies, inked contracts worth AED23.06 billion ($6.3 billion) with local and international companies, including a significant deal with HALCON for AED2.14 billion worth of ammunition.
Space and Future Technologies:
At the 18th Dubai Airshow, space and new technology were the main attractions. As part of the Emirates Mission to the Asteroid Belt (EMA), the UAE Space Agency has revealed the MBR Explorer spacecraft's timeline.
Additional noteworthy developments comprised a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA) and EANAN, a tech business based in the UAE that is spearheading innovations in advanced air mobility (AAM) technologies.
Strategic Partnership:
An unprecedented partnership has been launched between Dubai Airports, the biggest international hub operator in the world, and Intelak Hub, a leading innovation incubator in Dubai that caters to the aviation, tourism, and travel sectors.
