Kuwait and India reach agreement to hire domestic workers

Kuwait and India succeeded in defining the frameworks for approving the agreement on the recruitment of domestic workers, after the Cabinet approved the memorandum of understanding with India recently.

According to Al-Qabas newspaper, citing daily sources. Sources said that India has set the age group for hiring new workers, whose ages range between 30 and 55 years.

Whereas, the salary must not be less than 100 dinars per month, and a bank account must be opened for the worker to transfer the salary instead of paying her in cash.

The sources also added that there is also a clause stating that the approval of the Indian Embassy and an accredited recruitment agency is required for the employment contract.

For his part, the head of the Kuwaiti Federation of Domestic Labor Offices, Khaled Al-Dakhnan, told the newspaper that determining the age group reduced the number of new contracts from India.

Noting that Kuwait has banned the issuance of visas to those under the age of 30 since the signing of the memorandum of understanding. Moreover, an official source from the manpower sector revealed that 10 Indian recruitment offices have been allocated to hire domestic workers.
